Eleven people remain missing after a boat sank in the Pacific Ocean off the coast of Ensenada, Baja California. The U.S. Coast Guard rescued 16 individuals following distress calls received on October 16.

Matilde Santos and Jéssica Castro traveled to Tijuana to determine the fate of their brothers, who they believe were on the vessel. Both women have spent several days in the city searching for answers. They stated that Mexican authorities have not yet provided a list of the survivors' names.

Santos, who is from Guerrero, is looking for her brother Jorge Santos. She said he arrived in Tijuana eight days before the incident. He intended to cross into the United States to improve the living conditions for his two children, who are approximately seven, eight, and ten years old.

Castro, who is from Sinaloa, is searching for her brother Marcos Antonio Castro Hernández. She learned about the boat's distress through social media reports. She noted that U.S. officials responded first to the scene and took custody of the survivors, while Mexican officials have yet to act.

The last contact Castro had with her brother was a message telling her family he was leaving on a Friday. He confirmed that people had arrived to pick him up for the trip. Both women said they do not know how their brothers connected with the individuals who arranged the boat travel. They have also reached out to five other families whose relatives were reportedly on the same vessel.

The women visited the Mexican Consulate in Tijuana for information. Officials told them that the consulate did not yet have the names of the rescued individuals. The families are waiting to confirm whether their brothers are among the 16 rescued or the 11 missing.
